Well... to change layer, it can be done by teleporting the hero when some sensor is activated (a normal teleporter works too, but it works better with a sensor since you do not need a destination).

Okay, I was reading too much into what to do and making it seem harder than it actually was, but I think now that I have an idea on how to do it, I can certainly make a tutorial.  Although it required me to update my data file again, so please be sure to update it so the tutorial will work for you should you try to follow it :)

Actually I looked but currently, I don't believe there is a simple way to create a bridge in which you can walk both underneath and above it without scripting.  Seems that the only object that can do this is the stairs object, which plays the sound of Link walking on stairs as well as a sound effect.

Perhaps Christopho can implement an object which is essentially identical to the stairs entity but functions as a ladder instead?  This way no one would need to resort to scripting just to create a true to life bridge.  I mean he has entities that can move you from a higher layer to a lower layer (the jumper), and the stairs entity, which takes control away from the player until an animation and sound effect of Link actually walking up or down a stair is played, which would be weird to use in an overworld map without using actual stairs.

As a result, I am unable to provide an easy way to do this, as I am not a scriptor :( I am sorry ._.

Hi guys!  I have begun work on my tutorial site which will show off the various techniques you can use to make the best looking overworlds you can.  This will be a series I plan to start doing.  Keep in mind, that this series is not to teach you how to use Solarus.  It will only focus on the Full Hyrule tileset (for the time-being).

So, to show you what to expect from my series, here is the link to my first lesson, building houses.

http://solarus_resource.site88.net/tutorial/houses.htm

The series will be added upon, and after enough of the tutorials have been uploaded, I will have a contents page available to all of them.  There is more to come!!

Happy Mapping!!

Game art & music / Working on a Tutorial site

Hi guys!~

Sorry for my absence but I started working on a couple projects alongside the Solarus tileset project.

I have begun working on the tutorial site I mentioned awhile back regarding my Full Hyrule Tileset.  The tileset itself is nearing completion (now around 90% with a few data entries and some error checking left to go.  I have already begun working on a tutorial showcasing how to build houses with the transparent tiles.

Here's a preview ;)

It will still take some time for me to complete the site, which should include (in the beginning) tutorials on how to build houses, castles, parallaxing, tips and tricks, and how to build a Link to the Past style world map using my other tileset "Full World Map" (already completed tileset).

Absolutely XD Go right ahead <3

[UPDATE] I created a new thread for the updated version of the tileset so that not only can others download a previous version (if they wanted to), but it will be less taxing on others' PCs in case they have older models (like I do).  I actually have three PCs and use two regularly xD I do all my Solarus work on a Windows XP laptop and most of my media related stuff on my Windows 10 desktop, so I understand the need for performance prioritizing.  Please check the new thread for continued updates to this massive tileset.

Thanks again for the support!!!

I actually considered it.  I had originally planned to add not only the MC castle tiles, but the FSA tiles as well.  The tileset is massive already, and adding them in might require a little bit of relocating of some tiles and resizing the canvas for the tileset.  I was also planning to add in all the custom parallel worlds tiles, but I figured that it was best if just a few of those made it in.  After all, there is a TON of variety already just in the current tileset.  I will give it a lot of thought though (But my mind is already leaning towards yes xD)

We love you ffomega! 8)

AWWW <3 Thanks a lot!  That's very sweet :) Then, as thanks for all the support, here!! xD I'll go ahead and showcase my tileset.  Get ready xD There.....are.....A LOT...of tiles xDD

Again, keep in mind the following:

The data file is still in the works and will not be ready for some time.  As you can see in the tileset, a LOT of work still needs to be done.  The weird blue tiles in semi-transparency are there on purpose.  When I started creating the "snow-capped" tiles for the winter look, I ran into a problem mainly due to my poor vision, and realized that many users with perfect (or even better than mine) vision might also be confused by the simple two-color snow overlay, and I had the idea that, if I simply placed the tiles in the same general area within the tileset, horizontally parallel to the rest, users would understand which ones went where, but then looking at the tileset editor I ran into a big problem, which I actually should bring to Chris' attention:

There is an option within the sprite and item editor to change the color of the MCI background, but there is not an option to change it in the tileset editor, therefore it remains white.  This presents a big problem for the snow tiles since they are mostly an off-white and blend in with the MCI background.  That is the official reason for the blue half transparent tiles, so that *I* can see the snow tiles much easier.  I was going to remove them upon the official release of the tileset but I figured I might as well leave them in as a guide so that there is absolutely no confusion as to where they go.

WITH THAT....PLEASE ENJOY THIS PREVIEW!!

[Update 4-17-2016] I am about 90% finished with the Full Hyrule tileset, minus the data file.  I still need to add snow-capped tiles for the dungeon entrances and make sure there are no stray pixels (I have a bad habit of missing stray pixels I add to a tileset for reference points and because of my low vision I wind up overlooking them quite often

That being said.  Who wants to see the tileset so far? I will dub this tileset ver 3.0 final once I have finalized a few things within it and completely finished the .dat file that goes with it.  Currently, I'd say the data file is somewhere within the neighborhood of 45% to 55% complete, with some tiles needing to be moved, tile patterns removed or updated, and all the dungeon tiles added in.

This tileset comes complete with winter "overlays" for all the tiles in the tileset.  This means that you can place the tiles down that you want, and for almost every pattern, there will be a matching "snow cap" for it that can be placed on top of it for the powdered look you get during heavy snow flurries.

I kind of hope so because the score for a Link Between Worlds is MUCH better than the original Link to the Past.  Plus there are WAY more tracks to choose from

. . . . I can say that taking the trash out is harder than making a website with Weebly, but I live upstairs.

I know how you feel.  I live upstairs as well :P I actually have some webspace, and can easily create a quick subdomain for my Solarus assets :) I have an old archived website on 000webhost with a chat room on the home page.  It was a fan comic I created using assets from an MMO I once played.

Once I am satisfied with the Full Hyrule and the Ultimate Dungeon tilesets, I will begin working on a site for tutorials.

Now that Chris fixed the performance leak with the tilesets, I am giving the Full Hyrule tileset a bit of a makeover.  The Ultimate Dungeon tileset just needs to be checked for palette inconsistencies.

Oops xD sorry about that.  It was really early when I replied and I must have misclicked.  My apologies.  Also, I edited the last message I posted, as it sounded kind of diskish in my opinion.  I do apologize if the message was rude in any way :)

Currently, I do not have a website (yet).  There is no need to give me credit.  It would be nice though, as I put a lot of work into the data file :)

Thanks :)

Here it is guys!!  It took me a long time to resize, optimize, and edit this tileset.  Ironic, considering the tiles are mostly 8 x 8.  However it is completely done.  I hope the tile properties are correct (size, repeatables, etc.).

Some things to note:

1. This is a tileset for creating WORLD MAPS!  the Player does NOT need a starting location on any map this tileset is assigned to!
2. This tileset has been 100% made with the "empty" tile property.  This was done because the maps you make with them were not designed to be created for the player to move around on.
3. All tiles' default layers are 0.  Again, no need for layers here since a player is not necessary
4. You make your maps by placing tiles as you would any other tileset, and then print screening the finished result.  Save it as a png or whatever image formats Solarus accepts, and use the output image for your world maps.
5. This is ONLY the overworld maps.  I am still not decided yet on whether I will create dungeon minimap tiles, since the rooms are often relative to how the developers create them.
6. This tileset was made using Solarus 1.5!  If you are using 1.4.5 or older, the 'repeatable' tiles will NOT have smart resizing and will resize in both directions!

....Here is the data file

This tileset might seem a little overwhelming, and I plan to create screenshot tutorials for you all, as soon as I finish editing the Full Hyrule tileset.  I am about 55% to 60% finished with it, and will try to get a tutorial up for how to use some of its tiles.  This tileset will use a lot of alpha transparency tiles which should make editing maps more fun and give you more variety with optimized options!  Please look forward to it, but keep in mind I make no promises and I will have it done when I can <3

If you wish to give credit for any of my submissions, just use the name "ffomega".  All original sprites, tiles, characters, and names belong to Nintendo.  I merely edited this file for use in Solarus :) Thanks!!

What do you guys think? Should Solarus have a sound pack for A Link Between Worlds? After all, we are using the Link to the Past graphics and sound pack, why not use the music for LBW?  The soundtrack is actually pretty epic considering it is remixes of the music from Link to the Past and then some :)
