I like Kdenlive for recording and video editing on Linux. It reminds me of Camtasia and works almost like it.

Hi,
A solarus book is a great project! :)
I don't have a lot of time because I work on my own solarus tutorials, but I can answer your questions on the forum.

No problem to use the Solarus logo and screenshots of the quest editor, as long as you clearly mention that this is not an official book and that it is completely independent from the Solarus team.

You can even make a commercial book, but of course don't use Nintendo graphics.

Christopho! Your tutorials are excellent. I can understand your programming in the french tutorials, I have no idea what you are saying.  :D

Id like to create some book(s) for beginners to help solarus software users. Some kind of step by step pdf guide. I have build in time some pdf guides about a software, so i can say i have some little experience about it. Solarus quest engine even if at it starting stage i think it is some great software. But as a beginner my self i find it hard to understand. I wonder if the creator of this software and maybe others could help me about this personal project.

Maybe the creator of this software could send me a pm, so i could give him the direct link to one of my free pdf guides. So like that he will have a better view of what kind of guide id like to create. The advantage of some pdf guide with step by step images and text, is that the user dont need to be online to read the pages; and try to understand the software that i believe have good things about it.

Thank's for your time. A+
I can't wait for the PDF! I could help you outline the chapters?

Also, XP is pretty much still a modern operating system. It won't die and over 25% of the world population still uses it. You can even add programs and skins that make Windows XP as good as Windows 7. Security wise....no Windows Operating system is really safe from the internet. Sadly, church sites have more viruses. I recommend Ubuntu Precise or Elementary Luna if you ever switch to Linux or Dual Boot. (Make sure to test it with a LIVE CD First because it is easier to install it that way too. Make a partition, change boot settings for the disk first or USB, and install it along side windows XP if you want.)

I hope Wine will start on Windows sooner because Windows 8 & 10 are terrible with compatibility of old windows programs. I even heard Chrome didn't work on 10! XP still beating new versions is sad. Luckily, Windows 7 still works great.

Hello,

I have been watching the Solarus tutorials from the older version of the software.

1. I like the old grid. Maybe have an option to pick from the old and new grid. I like the straight lines and not the little dashed lines.
2. Have an option where one can zoom in and out with the mouse wheel.
3. I am pretty sure the developers are tried of hearing this one, but maybe an Android APK export? (I heard that this is already being worked on though)
4. Some buttons to make the the files and map details part disappear. That way one can see the whole tileset while mapping.
5. A theme option! I love black backgrounds and green text, but people might love the option as an image for the white space.
I realized Solarus works with windows Themes.
6. An Auto save feature. Everything in Solarus can save every 10 minutes or maybe a time picking option for Auto save.

Everything else about the editor is great! Best 2D game Engine.

Sincerely,
Zuto

This is great news. I was a little worried about not being able to port to android.  :)

Development / Re: Linux Solarus Not installing

The temporary Fix.

I could not get the file to compile from source on Percise. I won't say it can't be done, but it is a difficult task. The deb would not install either unless I upgraded my Ubuntu 12.04 precise.

I used the windows version with Wine. I ran it with Windows XP Wine. It would not work with Wine Windows 7 for me for some strange reason.

I added the extracted folder to my home folder.

I downloaded Alacarte from the software center and made a shortcut to the exe.

I downloaded gExtractWinIcons from the software center and extracted the Icon from the Solarus exe because the "make link" shortcut would not work without it until I did that. I added the icon to the shortcut with Alacarte.

I searched for the shortcut made with Alacarte in the dash home and added the shortcut to my wing panel and launched it.

Success! Nice and smooth with no glitches yet.

Edits and tips:
When you go through the Solarus tutorials and get to the save game part. The saves go in the Wine users section and not the Linux home, but the error file ends up in the Linux home.

Also, I added the Royal XP theme to Wine and added an image to the post. Solarus looks pretty now.

Long live Solarus!

I added attachments. Do I need other files to be able to install these?

I got the Windows version to work with Ubuntu Precise using Wine, but With Luna precise only the editor will work and that is super laggy with wine, but sound is amazing.

Edit:
Windows versions works perfectly in Ubuntu with Wine, but if possible...I'd still like a Precise version without compiling all the source files and I am not sure if it will work. Compiling those 3 files from source can be difficult because the .deb files won't work.

My updated Linux OS kinda died and was not usable. I don't think Solarus works on Ubuntu 12.04 precise.

I just want to know if you ever got it working because I am doing the same with 12.04 Ubuntu.

Temporary Fix if you still can't get it to work.

Well, I will do the basic tutorials on the site and will check back with platform porting support.

This engine seems to be the best for multiple platforms. A lot of commercial engines are not even this close.

I will try to make the basics of my game in Solarus and help locate bugs.

Hello Solarus Community,

I find that this open source engine is very flexible and decided to switch to it. I have a few questions though and please correct me if I am wrong. I don't know if there are glitches for the new version of Solarus.

  • Where would I find games made with Solarus besides the two(2) Zelda games?
  • Where can I find porting information and what can it port to? I read somewhere about Wii, android, Linux, GCW-Zero, Mac, etc

I got everything currently working in the Engine I'm using, but the porting is going no where for the engine and many platforms, consoles, and operating systems is very important. That is why I wish to switch to Solarus.

Sincerely,
Zuto
