Hello. 8-Bit Heroes is my first attempt at creating a video game using the Solarus engine. Just recently, I completed a demo that covers the initial section of the game.

The White Dragon and its army of monsters and warlords have devastated the kingdom and killed both the king and the queen: the Faerie of Light. The kingdom is in desperate need of heroes. Luckily, there are two to take up the call. Adventure as both the squire: an expert in melee combat, and the princess: a wielder of fey magic, swapping between them as-needed.

8-Bit Heroes is a top-down action RPG that is a celebration of top-down games from the 8-bit eras of gaming; mainly the NES era. Inspirations include The Legend of Zelda (NES), Dragon Quest (NES), and Ys I and II (PC8801 / NES).

I hope to have the full game completed by 2026. This game is intended to be a commercial release when it's finished, so the maps, character sprites, object sprites, and title screen sprites are all proprietary. However, my code for the demo, as well as two tilesets and the HUD sprites, are under MIT license and are available to use provided that credit is given.

The demo is available to download for free on https://lefthandedhero1.itch.io/8-bit-heroes. The Solarus Launcher is not included with the game's file; download the Solarus Launcher from the main Solarus website to run the demo.

it looks like if you drag a file to the bar at the bottom of the forum post box, you can attach it that way. Seems a little difficult and obtuse, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

> Is there a way to share the demo without providing access to the code or assets?
The game will need to code to run, so you're going to have to include it lol ;-p
You're really asking about a way to make it difficult for people to get to the assets in a normal format, so some sort of encryption? The engine doesn't have a built-in way to do that, you'd have to create some external solution youself, and I don't think it's really worth it.

Thanks for the information.

I have released the game on itch io and I have updated the forum post to include the link. I also put the link in the showcase-solarus section of the discord.
