Suggestions for the Solarus Editor
« on: September 07, 2015, 11:01:54 pm »
Hello,

I have been watching the Solarus tutorials from the older version of the software.

1. I like the old grid. Maybe have an option to pick from the old and new grid. I like the straight lines and not the little dashed lines.
2. Have an option where one can zoom in and out with the mouse wheel.
3. I am pretty sure the developers are tried of hearing this one, but maybe an Android APK export? (I heard that this is already being worked on though)
4. Some buttons to make the the files and map details part disappear. That way one can see the whole tileset while mapping.
5. A theme option! I love black backgrounds and green text, but people might love the option as an image for the white space.
I realized Solarus works with windows Themes.
6. An Auto save feature. Everything in Solarus can save every 10 minutes or maybe a time picking option for Auto save.

Everything else about the editor is great! Best 2D game Engine.

Sincerely,
Zuto

1. You can already customize the grid style in the preferences (thanks Maxs!)
2. Use Ctrl+wheel to zoom.
3. A "create package" feature would be nice, yes. Not only for Android. I'm not sure how to handle the different platforms.
4. You can already move the splitter such that the quest tree and the map properties view are completely collapsed. An additional button would only add confusion in my opinion.
6. Actually what we already plan to do is to auto-save when running the quest (with a preference to enable or disable it). See https://github.com/christopho/solarus-quest-editor/issues/90. What do you think?

I'm not missing an auto-save option. I do miss a save all option to save all unsaved opened files at once.

Great!!!  :D
About half of the issues I'm having occur because I keep thinking that my files would be saved when I run the quest (Visual Studio has got this behaviour). Especially because I do test my quest very often.
So thank you very much for solving half of my problems all at once ;D

1. I could not find the option for the grid look in 1.4.4 or 1.4.2. One can change the grid size though. I'll add some pictures. In 1.3 the grid was smooth in your tutorial. The XP Wine msstyle theme made Solarus black and I change the text to green, but I think you will still be able to notice the grid.
2. I love the zoom option. It reminds me so much of Blender.
3. I agree about the export option.
4. Oops! I just tried moving the splitters again and it moved and works.
6. Hmmm....I don't know.....I would feel safer if Solarus autosaved on a time limit because I normally don't run a quest when mapping. I normally only run the game when testing a map that was created. Solarus has never crashed on me though, not even when using Wine on Linux. I think saving the game during a quest run is useful as well because it is very easy to forget to save the game when wanting to run it.
7. Oh! Maybe a crash restore point in the Future? Kinda like how a browser can restore things after a crash or like Photoshop 6 when it crashes.

1. Right, the grid style is a new feature of 1.5 so it is not released yet :)
