Title: Would you be interested in port of RM2k/2k3 RTP?
Post by: darkhog on February 02, 2016, 07:55:59 PM
Mostly I mean graphics as I'm not sure if Solarus is capable of playing midis. Of course for character sprites I'd need to make additional animations as those mostly only have movement cycle, but should be possible. As for chipsets (RM2k term for tilesets for those who are not familiar), it should be easy thanks to Solarus' easy and flexible tileset system, probably would put several chipsets in one bitmap as well since they tend to be quite small.

The question is, would anyone be interested in such pack?

The nice thing is that we only need to do one tileset data file, and then they are all the same with RPG Maker :)
However there are some incompatibilities because it is possible with RPG Maker to have walls with a thickness of 0 pixels, and not with Solarus.

Due to license issues I am not interested in rpg maker graphics and sounds for my own games, but for sure it could be a very nice database.

I'd be interested in a Open Source Solarus RTP, but RPG Marker (Ace, XP, etc) doesn't allow use of their assets outside of the RPG Maker engines.

You'd literally, have to make everything from scratch without creating an RTP edit argument. I would be interested in a competition, but I don't know when Solarus will do competitions.

Regarding license issues. Situation is literally no different than with ALTTP pack, Nintendo probably wouldn't allow using it either. Just I want to know if people would be interested in using it in their projects.

Well, I guess they won't care. It is for education use and I think it's legal. Fair use.

You'd have issues with the water animation and other similar animations too. I think (da na).

Exactly my point and I know about water thing. Should be easy enough to accommodate for. Also this is most stupid reason for canceling a book I've ever heard.

Not really, the only reason I started the book was for "her" and the text or writing was going to be public domain. I'm pretty sure everyone can learn what they need to from Christopher Tutorials if they really want to learn. The french tutorials are easy to understand as well. Don't even need to know french if you have a little programming experience. Better yet, just study the Zelda Projects with trial and error.
